What happens in a session
In a first one-to-one session the practitioner usually starts by asking what you want help with. Then they guide you through an exercise, and you talk afterwards about what you noticed. Sessions often last between 45 minutes and an hour.
You will normally be given short exercises to practise between sessions. Home practice is a big part of how sophrology works, and it usually takes only a few minutes a day.
One-to-one, group or online
One-to-one sessions are tailored to you. Group classes are usually cheaper and suit general stress and relaxation. Many practitioners also work online by video call, which works well because the exercises need only a quiet space and a chair.
How many sessions do you need?
It depends on what you want to work on. Practitioners often suggest a short series of sessions with practice in between. Ask your practitioner what they would suggest for you before you commit.
What does it cost?
Each practitioner sets their own prices, so costs vary between practitioners and areas, and London is often higher. Group classes usually cost less than one-to-one sessions.
Before you book, ask what a session costs, how long it lasts, whether there is a short introductory call, whether packages are cheaper, and what the cancellation terms are.
How to choose a practitioner
Look for recognised training, professional insurance and membership of a professional body. Our guide on how to become a sophrologist explains what these look like. You can also find a practitioner in your area, and read our guide on how to choose a sophrologist.
