Is sophrology safe?
It is gentle and non-invasive, and you stay in control throughout. If you have a medical or mental health condition, or you are pregnant, speak to your GP first and tell your practitioner.
Can I do sophrology online?
Yes. Sophrology works well over video calls, and many UK practitioners offer online sessions as well as sessions in person.
Is sophrology the same as meditation?
No, although they share some ideas. Sophrology uses more movement and follows a set sequence of exercises. You stay awake and aware, with your eyes usually closed.
Do I need to be fit or flexible?
No. The movements are small and slow, and they can be done seated.
Can children and teenagers try it?
Some practitioners work with children and teenagers, for example on exam nerves. Ask the practitioner about their experience with young people.
Is sophrology available on the NHS?
It is not usually offered on the NHS, so most people pay a practitioner privately.
How much does it cost?
Each practitioner sets their own prices, and group classes are usually cheaper than one-to-one sessions. Our guide to sessions and what to ask explains what to check before you book.
